Tourist & FAMILY Visit visa requirements


Issued to those who intend to go to China for touring, sightseeing or visiting friends, relatives who are Chinese citizens residing in China or foreigners with permanent residence status in China.




You must provide your actual signed passport, including one copy of the personal information page of your passport. Your passport must:


  • Be valid for six months beyond the length of your requested visa (for example, if you are requesting a 12 month visa your passport must be valid for 18 months).
  • Contain at least two blank visa pages for the visa stamp (amendments and endorsement pages cannot be used to fulfill this requirement).




Please send one recent professional passport-type photograph.


The Chinese Consulate requires a photograph that meets very strict requirements. We recommend that you submit your photograph electronically to us so we can ensure it meets the stringent characteristics mandated by the Chinese Consulate. Follow our photo service to upload your photo.


Supporting Documents


You must provide one of the following documents for a tourist visa.


  • Photocopy of the round-trip airline ticket and hotel reservation.

  • An Invitation Letter for Tourist Group by a Duly Authorized Tourism Unit.

  • An Invitation Letter issued by a company, corporation, institution or individual in China. If the invitation letter is issued by an individual in China, a photocopy of the ID of the individual is required.

  • The invitation letter issued by companies, corporations, institutions or individuals in China, shall include the following items: (A) Personal information of the applicant: name, gender, date of birth, passport number, etc. (B) Information concerning the applicant’s visit to China: purpose of the visit, date of arrival and leaving, places to visit, relationship between the applicant and the inviter, and who will bear the cost of the applicant’s accommodations in China. (C) Information of the inviter: name of the unit or individual, phone number, address, and if applicable, seal and signature of the legal representative. 


Proof of State Residency


Traveler's will be expected to submit a copy of their valid Driver's License to prove their address. Minors must submit a parents Driver's License along with a copy of the birth certificate.


For Non-U. S. Citizens:


You must send a photo copy of your U.S. Green Card or your valid U.S. visa.

Former Chinese citizens or Individuals Born in Chinese Territories


If you are a former PRC passport holder or were born in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Macau:


  • You must write your name in Chinese characters for question 1.2 on the visa application form
  • You must provide a copy of your most recent China visa and a copy of the passport in which the visa was issued
  • If you have never been issued a China visa you must submit your original China passport and a copy of your Green Card, and a copy of your Naturalization Certificate
  • If you were adopted from China you must also include a copy of your adoption papers showing adoptive parents names, name change, and photo with parents (do not include the original papers).  If applicable, include a copy of your naturalization certificate and U.S. birth certificate.


Applicants Under the Age of 18


All minors under the age of 18 traveling to China must:


  • Provide a copy of their birth certificate
  • Provide a copy of both parents' passports or drivers' licenses
